BRC Consortium receives 36 proposals in call for research and restoration in the Amazon

The Brazil-Norway Biodiversity Research Consortium (BRC) has concluded the submission phase of its 2025 Call for Proposals, reaching a total of 36 submissions. Formed by the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), the Federal Rural University of the Amazon (UFRA), the Goeldi Museum (MPEG), the University of Oslo (UiO), and the company Hydro — and funded by the Hydro Fund — the BRC Consortium promotes science connected to local territories, aiming to strengthen scientific interest in priority themes for the Amazon, such as biodiversity, ecological restoration, and applied science.

This stage marks a key moment in the funding process, focused on the careful evaluation of the proposals received. The total budget for the 2025 Call is R$11 million, and at least one proposal submitted by a researcher affiliated with one of the member institutions will be selected. The selected projects will be implemented over a period of 24 to 60 months.

“The diversity of proposals received reaffirms BRC's role as a catalyst for collaborative science and sustainable development in the Amazon. Each contribution is a vital part of our collective effort to move forward with evidence-based solutions” says Flora Bittencourt, BRC Executive Secretary.

According to the Call guidelines, after verifying compliance with the eligibility criteria, the eligible proposals will be distributed among members of the Technical Committee and the Scientific Committee, the latter composed of external reviewers. Scientific merit, feasibility, applicability of results, and impact on advancing knowledge in the priority topics outlined in the Call are among the key evaluation criteria. The process also includes publication of preliminary results, a period for appeals, and concludes with the release of the final list of approved projects.

Further updates and upcoming steps will be published here on the official website.
