Emílio Goeldi Museum, Department of Zoology, Invertebrates Sector

Full Researcher at the Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi and professor of the Postgraduate Program in Zoology of the agreement Museu Paraense Emílio Goeldi/Federal University of Pará. He develops studies on spider systematics (mainly from the Neotropics) and ecology of Amazonian arachnids. Alexandre is the current editor of the Journal Zootaxa (New Zealand) for the families Anyphaenidae and Clubionidae (Araneae), Research and Graduate Coordinator of the Goeldi Museum and member of the CNPq Zoology Advisory Committee.

Ana Cristina Mendes de Oliveira

Federal University of Pará, Institute of Biological Sciences. Laboratory of Vertebrate Zoology

Titular Professor at the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), accredited in the combined Postgraduate Program in Zoology between UFPA and Goeldi Museum, and in the collaborative Graduate Program in Ecology between UFPA and EMBRAPA-Amazônia. She works with Conservation of terrestrial mammals, by evaluating the human impacts on the mammalian fauna and use of game fauna (game animals)  in the Amazon.

Natural History Museum, University of Oslo

Fridtjof Mehlum is one of the initiators of the BRC consortium in 2013 on behalf of the Natural History Museum, University of Oslo. He is the former research director of the museum and is now a senior researcher (emeritus). Mehlum holds a Dr. philos. degree in ecology from the University of Oslo. He has been involved in a broad range of biological research, and his specialty is ornithology. His publication list includes 150 scientific and popular science papers. Since the start of BRC, Mehlum has been a member of the BRC board and the head of the BRC Scientific Committee.

He works in the area of Ecology, with emphasis on Ecosystem Ecology and Forest Dynamics, acting mainly on the following themes: Interactions between biosphere and atmosphere, emission of trace gases, biogeochemistry of coastal ecosystems and processes related to land use change.

Hudson Cleber Pereira da Silva

Natural History Museum, University of Oslo

Professor, Acting Research Director and Head of the Department of Research and Collections at the Natural History Museum – University of Oslo. His main research interests are molecular identification, systematics and environmental DNA. His research has focused on developing molecular identification of plants, molecular identification of processed plant products in trade, and illegal trade in plants, through chloroplast genome data and the development of specific target-enrichment methods for efficient generation of genetic data from degraded material.

Has experience on Forest Resources and Forest Engineering, with emphasis on Dendrology and Recovery of Degraded Areas, acting mainly on the following themes: Amazon, forest inventories, techniques for the recovery of degraded areas in the Amazon, forest phenology, environmental modeling, wood anatomy.

Gustavo Rodrigo Sanches Ruiz

Federal University of Pará, Institute of Biological Sciences

Has a degree in Biological Sciences from UNESP in São José do Rio Preto (2003), and master (2006) and doctor (2010) in Zoology from USP, São Paulo, with participation by PDEE (Capes) at the University of British Columbia, Canada (2008 -2009). Postdoctoral research in spider systematics at Instituto Butantan, São Paulo (2010-2011). Professor (since 2011) at ICB - UFPA and PPG in Zoology at the same institution. Research focus: biodiversity and use of morphological and molecular data in the phylogenetic inference of spiders

Ivoneide Maria da Silva

Federal University of Pará, Institute of Biological Sciences. Laboratory of Medical Parasitology

Associate Professor at the Federal University of Pará and advisor at the Postgraduate Program in Ecology (UFPA/EMBRAPA). Has experience in Parasitology, with an emphasis on Medical Entomology, developing studies on biology and ecology of vector insects, and in the area of chemical ecology, focusing on the development and evaluation of traps. Has research focus on monitoring and control of vector insects.

Jonathan Stuart Ready

Federal University of Pará, Institute of Biological Sciences. Center of Advanced Studies in Biodiversity

Graduated in Biology (B.Sc.) at the University of Southampton (2000) and PhD in Biology from the University of Hull (2004). He worked in Sweden (Swedish Museum of Natural History) in the FISHBASE consortium and later in the INCOFISH Project, coordinating research on forecasting the distribution of marine organisms and developing the AquaMaps system. He works at the Federal University of Pará as an Associate Professor. Has experience in General Biology, acting on the following subjects: genetics, morphology, evolution and ecology.

Associate professor of the Federal University of Pará and Member of the Brazilian Academy of Science. He develops projects related to ecology and conservation, evaluating how the change in land use affects the integrity and biodiversity in the Amazon. Has experience in Ecology, focusing on Community Ecology and species distribution, acting mainly on River Ecology, Aquatic Communities, Aquatic insects, metacommunity, beta diversity, diversity and Odonata distribution.

Biologist, with Masters in Biological Sciences from the Federal University of Pará (1993) and PhD in Biology from the University of Miami (2002). She is currently Professor at the Federal University of Pará, lecturing in the course of Biological Sciences and in the post graduation in Ecology. Has experience in ecology and conservation of tropical forests, mainly on the following subjects: structure and dynamics of communities (plants and mammals), regeneration of plant populations and communities, ecology and behavior of primates.

Has experience in the area of Zoology, with emphasis on Herpetology. She develops researches mainly on the following themes: ecology, autoecology, natural history and parasitism of snakes, lizards and amphibians. Main area of study is eastern Amazon.

Has experience in Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation Biology. Areas of interest: Biological indicators for valuing, conserving and recovering biodiversity; Analysis of ecological interactions, processes and ecosystem services; Ecological and environmental processes for conservation of plant species; Evolutionary ecology and historical adaptive processes; Environmental preservation for a more sustainable Amazon both for rural as for urban landscapes.

Norberto Cornejo Noronha

Researcher at Federal Rural University of the Amazon. Has graduation in Agronomy from the Faculty of Engineering of Ilha Solteira - UNESP (1996), master's degree in Soils and Plant Nutrition from at USP - ESALQ (1999) and PhD in Sciences - area Chemistry in Agriculture and Environment, USP (2005). He has experience in agronomy, reforestation, survey and soil classification. His main field is soil and restoration of degraded areas in the Amazon.

Øystein Wiig

Natural History Museum, University of Oslo

Professor emeritus in mammalogy at Natural History Museum, University of Oslo. Research primarily related to Arctic marine mammals, in particular polar bears, walrus and bowhead whales. The studies are management oriented and related to movement patterns and distribution of populations. Many studies are related to levels of pollution in the marine environment. The research is also related to the systematics of terrestrial carnivores. In later years, the research has an increased focus on genetic analyses of ancient and contemporary tissue samples from Arctic mammals in order to assess population structure. Since 2014, scientific leader of several projects on the effects of mining operations on red listed mammals in Paragominas, Brazil. Has published about 220 research articles in international scientific journals.

Raphael Ligeiro Barroso Santos

Works in the area of limnology and ecology of streams, having as main biological groups the benthic macroinvertebrates, particularly aquatic insects. The focus of his studies is on community ecology, seeking to understand the patterns of diversity distribution at different spatial scales, as well as the processes responsible for these patterns, in a perspective of metacommunities.

He is interested in studies on ant communities, including richness, distribution, functional and phylogenetic structure, with research applied to the conservation of ecosystems in the Amazon. Full Professor at the Federal University of Pará, collaborating researcher at the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA). Has experience in Aquaculture and fishing resources with emphasis on Morphology (histology, immuno-histochemistry and cellular ultrastructure). Main areas of interest are: Reproductive biology of vertebrates (fish, reptiles and mammals) and aquatic invertebrates (shrimp, oyster, polychaetes ); morpho-physiology of male and female gametogenesis; structural and ultrastructural morphology of the digestive system of fishes; ecological studies in the area of toxicology as histological biomarkers of pollution in fish.

Youszef Oliveira da Cunha Bitar

Federal University of Pará, Institute of Biological Sciences. Marajó-Soure Campus

Youszef is currently an Adjunct Professor of Ecology at the UFPA - campus Soure-Marajó. He is a biologist with master's and PhD in ecology of Amazonian frogs. Has background on studies with herpetology, especially assessing the distribution of diversity of amphibian communities in the Amazon. Among his main field of interest are: effects of environmental disturbances on amphibians, including mining and monocultures; factors that regulate the distribution of species in natural environments of upland and lowland areas.

The Biodiversity Research Consortium Brazil-Norway (BRC) was established in 2013. Uniting five Brazilian and Norwegian institutions, the main aim of the cooperation is to develop environmental research in the eastern Brazilian Amazon.
