The Brazil–Norway Biodiversity Research Consortium (BRC) was presented during the 36th Brazilian Congress of Zoology (CBZ), one of the country’s leading scientific events in the field. The consortium was represented by researcher Alberto Akama, who participated as organizer, moderator, and speaker in the roundtable organized by the Brazilian Society of Ichthyology, entitled “Private Funding in Biodiversity Research.

The roundtable aimed to discuss the growing role of the private sector in financing biodiversity research, a topic that has been gaining increasing relevance within the national scientific landscape. The discussion addressed different funding modalities and sought to identify opportunities, challenges, and impacts of private investments on the advancement of science.

Among the models presented and discussed were initiatives related to biodiversity inventories associated with environmental licensing, research institutes funded by companies, and collaborative initiatives between science and the private sector, such as the Brazil–Norway Biodiversity Research Consortium.

During his participation, the researcher shared insights into how the BRC operates, including its funding structure through research calls, supported projects, and the impacts of its research on public policies, scientific knowledge production, and the training of human resources.

The event also featured the presentation of the book “Amazon Rainforest: Biodiversity and Forest Restoration in Paragominas”, a publication that compiles research results and field experiences developed within the consortium.
